Long Term Disability (LTD)
Long Term Disability LTD coverage is offered through The Hartford. Note: This LTD insurance is optional and separate from the LTD benefits provided to VRS Hybrid members. LTD insurance pays a portion of your earnings if you cannot work because of a disabling illness or injury and is a recommended component of your current benefits elections. LTD through The Hartford is voluntary, employee-paid coverage that features low group rate premiums paid through the convenience of monthly payroll deduction. If you enroll during the first thirty (30) days of hire, enrollment is guaranteed (normal waiting periods apply) and no medical information will be required. Employees who do not enroll during their initial eligibility period will have the opportunity to enroll during the annual benefits Open Enrollment period, but will have to complete a medical questionnaire along with their enrollments. Coverage is not guaranteed once outside of the initial offer period.
You have the choice of two plan options:
- Option 1: You must be disabled for at least 120 days before the benefit will pay, and the maximum time you would receive the benefit is 2 years
- Option 2: You must be disabled for at least 90 days before the benefit will pay, and the maximum time you would receive the benefit is 5 years
Both plans provide you with income protection to replace up to 60% of your earnings, to a monthly maximum of $10,000. Rates are determined by age and income. Please be sure to review the Plan highlights sheet. Please read the information carefully before making your selection. By enrolling in Long Term Disability coverage, you also receive Ability Assist Counseling Services and Travel Assistance Services.
Please note: the enrollment forms are for newly eligible employees only (within the first 30 days of hire or benefits-eligibility). If you are not newly eligible to apply for coverage, you must submit the form title "LTD Enrollment Form - Open Enrollment ONLY" during the annual Open Enrollment period.
